What is Search Engine Optimization?
If you want to dominate search engines and get more traffic to your website than you deserve, you need to work on search engine optimization. Before you do anything, though, you need to know how search engine optimization works.
The way it works is simple. If your website is not properly optimized for search engines, you cannot expect to get top placement in search results. Proper search engine optimization involves a lot of work, both on the site itself and off, as well as continuous maintenance to keep your website in excellent condition for the search engines. The work doesn’t stop once your site reaches top placement, though. You must work to keep your top placement.
You must identify the right keywords for your website. These keywords allow people to find your site when searching for your keywords. Use these keywords in your file names and in your web content. The search engine bots look at specific parts of your web page to help them identify what it is about. The keywords in these parts of your web page are noticed by the bots. When you add new content to your site or make changes to an existing one, you should make sure you use the keywords in your new content.
Make sure your website contains content relevant to your keywords. In other words, don’t fill your website with fake content just to increase your search engine ranking. If you have real content on your website it will attract and keep visitors on your site.
Your website should be created to be search engine friendly. While search engine bots can scan most sites, they do not recognize the images on your site. They are only aware of the HTML code that tells them what your site is about. Most site builders include only standard HTML code. This limits your site to the ability to be indexed correctly. It is important to spend some time, however, on making your site worth visiting. This includes making sure that your website content is unique, adding plenty of helpful links, and changing the areas where your navigation appears so that people will find it easier to get around your site.
Search Engine Optimization is not hard. You just need to do the right things.

“But why isn’t my website content getting you traffic?”
The answer lies in the question – “Why does my business need a professional SEO copy?”
The majority of business owners with a website make the assumption that just because they invested in a nice, new website and the idea didn’t come to fruition overnight, that it will flood your bank account with money overnight.
If that’s the case, you have to check your website more. You really need to know what keywords you are trying to target. You need to know why you are choosing those keywords. Regardless of what your website is about, you will need to choose the right keywords. Here are a couple of things that you’ll need to consider:
Vying for Keywords. If you compete for the wrong keywords, you will lose. On the internet, the richer the keyword you compete for, the harder it is to win. In order to find out what keywords you will go after and how to dominate them, check out a number of sites that provide keyword research tools. One of the best ones is Wordtracker’s Keyword Research Tool. You can enter your main keyword and they will begin to analyze all the related keywords. They will show you the number of daily searches made for that keyword, the number of sites for which it is present in the search engine results, and so on. These are the keywords that you will go for. If you pick keywords like “folio” or “legal services”, you will need much more effort and time in getting a top search engine ranking than if you entered ” portfolio” as your main keyword.
You can also do a bit of spying to get ideas on what other things you can do to focus on.
If you spend some time doing this research, you will have a much easier time selecting keywords that are going to bring traffic to your website. And once you’ve got your keywords, you can easily rank your website for them.
Want to get ranked in a competitive market?
Some keywords that get a lot of traffic and competition are long-tail keywords. These usually consist of 4 or more keywords; therefore, the traffic potential is much lower than the other keyword phrases. But long-tail keyword phrases are usually very targeted, so there is a lot of somebody out there clicking on the search engines to get traffic to their site. You can quickly rank for long-tail phrases and quickly get visitors to your website.
Track and monitor what is working.
Once you’ve got your list of keywords and keyword phrases, it’s time to put them to good use. If you don’t track and notice what’s working and what isn’t working for you, you’re going to waste a lot of time and money optimizing for something that isn’t going to work for you no matter how hard you try.
You will need to create a lot of content outside of your website to really Evaluation what your website is about. Several social networks that I would recommend you use to massive traffic:
Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, Quora, etc.
These can all be used in conjunction to get visitors to your site.
