When you feel down…

business rollercoasterEntrepreneurship is a pretty hectic life. It’s like a rollercoaster. One day you’re on top, the next day you’re already on the ground. When you’re in a bad mood or when it’s a bad day, check the quotes of famous business people below. Remember, somebody was already there before you. It will help. Don’t talk too much about your plans. Do It.

Thomas Alva Edison

(February 11, 1847 – October 18, 1931)

“Many of life’s failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.”
“To invent, you need a good imagination and a pile of junk.”
“Waste is worse than loss. The time is coming when every person who lays claim to ability will keep the question of waste before him constantly. The scope of thrift is limitless.”
“Be courageous. I have seen many depressions in business. Always America has emerged from these stronger and more prosperous. Be brave as your fathers before you. Have faith! Go forward!”
“There will one day spring from the brain of science a machine or force so fearful in its potentialities, so absolutely terrifying, that even man, the fighter, who will dare torture and death in order to inflict torture and death, will be appalled, and so abandon war forever.”

Hilary Hinton “Zig” Ziglar

(November 6, 1926 – November 28, 2012)

“Don’t be distracted by criticism. Remember–the only taste of success some people get is to take a bite out of you.”
“You can get everything you want in life if you will just help other people get what they want.”
“Success doesn’t come overnight, it comes over time.”
Rich people have small TVs and big libraries, and poor people have small libraries and big TVs.
You don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great.
When obstacles arise, you change your direction to reach your goal; you do not change your decision to get there.
Among the things you can give and still keep are your word, a smile, and a grateful heart.
The chief cause of failure and unhappiness is trading what you want most for what you want right now.
If you go out looking for friends, you’re going to find they are very scarce. If you go out to be a friend, you’ll find them everywhere.
Many marriages would be better if the husband and wife clearly understood that they’re on the same side.
A lot of people have gone further than they thought they could because someone else thought they could.
The greatest of all mistakes is to do nothing because you think you can only do a little.
Some of us learn from other people’s mistakes and the rest of us have to be other people.
FEAR has two meanings: ‘Forget Everything And Run’ or ‘Face Everything And Rise.’ The choice is yours.
When you are tough on yourself, life is going to be infinitely easier on you.

Conrad Nicholson Hilton

(December 25, 1887 – January 3, 1979)

“Success seems to be connected with action. Successful people keep moving. They make mistakes, but they don’t quit.”
To achieve big things you have to have big dreams.
I can think of no greater God-given responsibility we have than that of extending a helping hand to our fellow man.
Enthusiasm is a vital element toward the individual success of every man or woman.
Success is never final; failure is never fatal.
To some degree, you control your life by controlling your time.
To be haunted by past failures or satisfied with past successes is to arrest forward motion.
There’s a vastness here and I believe that the people who are born here breathe that vastness into their soul. They dream big dreams and think big thoughts because there is nothing to hem them in.

Bruce Lee

Lee Jun-fan (November 27, 1940 – July 20, 1973)

“The successful warrior is the average man, with laser-like focus.”
I fear not the man who has practiced 10 000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10 000 times.
A goal is not always meant to be reached, it often serves simply as something to aim at.
Knowing is not enough; We must apply. Willing is not enough; We must do.
Mistakes are always forgivable if one has the courage to admit them.
Those who are unaware they are walking in darkness will never seek the light.
If you always put limits on everything you do, physical or anything else, it will spread into your work and into your life. There are no limits. There are only plateaus, and you must not stay there, you must go beyond them.
Learning is never cumulative, it is a movement of knowing which has no beginning and no end.

Walt Disney

Walter Elias Disney (December 5, 1901 – December 15, 1966)

The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing.
If you can dream it, you can do it.
There is more treasure in books than in all the pirate’s loot on Treasure Island.
Leadership means that a group, large or small, is willing to entrust authority to a person who has shown judgment, wisdom, personal appeal, and proven competence.
You reach a point where you don’t work for money.
The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing.
Do a good job. You don’t have to worry about the money; it will take care of itself. Just do your best work — then try to trump it.
The more you like yourself, the less you are like anyone else, which makes you unique.
All our dreams can come true if we have the courage to pursue them.
Why worry? If you’ve done the very best you can, worrying won’t make it any better.
Get a good idea and stay with it. Dog it, and work at it until it’s done right.
The difference between winning and losing is most often not quitting.
Everyone falls down. Getting back up is how you learn how to walk.
Never get bored or cynical. Yesterday is a thing of the past.

Franklin Delano Roosevelt

(January 30, 1882 – April 12, 1945)
Franklin Delano Roosevelt, often referred to by his initials FDR, was an American politician who served as the 32nd president of the United States from 1933 until his death in 1945.

The only limit to our realization of tomorrow will be our doubts of today.
The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.
When you come to the end of your rope, tie a knot, and hang on.
We cannot always build the future for our youth, but we can build our youth for the future.
I’m not the smartest fellow in the world, but I can sure pick smart colleagues.
Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the assessment that something else is more important than fear.
The only limit to our realization of tomorrow will be our doubts of today. Let us move forward with strong and active faith.
Happiness is not in the mere possession of money; it lies in the joy of achievement, in the thrill of creative effort.
A smooth sea never made a skilled sailor.
Men are not prisoners of fate, but only prisoners of their own minds.
Repetition does not transform a lie into a truth.
It isn’t sufficient just to want – you’ve got to ask yourself what you are going to do to get the things you want.
The ones who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones that do.
Do one thing every day that scares you.
One enemy is too many and a hundred friends too few.
Never say, ‘oops’. Always say, ‘Ah, interesting’.
A mistake should be your teacher, not your attacker. A mistake is a lesson, not a loss. It is a temporary, necessary detour, not a dead end.
All the talent in the world won’t take you anywhere without your teammates.
Ambition is putting a ladder against the sky.
Time is like a handful of sand- the tighter you grasp it, the faster it runs through your fingers
Better late than never, but never late is better
Ignorance can be educated. Crazy can be medicated. But there is no cure for stupid.
Addiction doesn’t kill the addict. It kills the family, kids, and people who tried to help!
One who refuses to seek the advice of others will eventually be led to a path of ruin. A mentor helps you to perceive your own weaknesses and confront them with courage. The bond between mentor and protege enables us to stay true to our chosen path until the very end.
The future is always beginning now.

Albert Einstein

Albert Einstein (14 March 1879 – 18 April 1955) was a German-born theoretical physicist who developed the theory of relativity, one of the two pillars of modern physics.

Try not to become a man of success. Rather become a man of value.
Few are those who see with their own eyes and feel with their own hearts.
Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world.
Great spirits have always encountered violent opposition from mediocre minds.
Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better.
A man should look for what is, and not for what he thinks should be.
A table, a chair, a bowl of fruit, and a violin; what else does a man need to be happy?
A human being is part of a whole called by us “Universe.
I love to travel, but I hate to arrive.
The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existence.
He who can no longer pause to wonder and stand rapt in awe is as good as dead; his eyes are closed.
I have no special talent. I am only passionately curious.
The great moral teachers of humanity were, in a way, artistic geniuses in the art of living.

Thomas Jefferson

Thomas Jefferson (April 13, 1743– July 4, 1826) was an American statesman, diplomat, lawyer, architect, philosopher, and Founding Father who served as the third president of the United States from 1801 to 1809.

I’m a greater believer in luck, and I find the harder I work the more I have of it.
If you want something you’ve never had you must be willing to do something you’ve never done.
Nothing can stop the man with the right mental attitude from achieving his goal; nothing on earth can help the man with the wrong mental attitude.
Take care of your cents: Dollars will take care of themselves.
I like the dreams of the future better than the history of the past.
Every day is lost in which we do not learn something useful. Man has no nobler or more valuable possession than time.
Never put off to tomorrow what you can do today.
Be polite to all, but intimate with few.
Don’t talk about what you have done or what you are going to do.
He who knows best knows how little he knows.
It is always better to have no ideas than false ones; to believe nothing than to believe what is wrong.
A coward is much more exposed to quarrels than a man of spirit.
Walking is the best possible exercise. Habituate yourself to walk very far.

John Davison Rockefeller Sr.

John Davison Rockefeller (July 8, 1839 – May 23, 1937) was an American business magnate and philanthropist. He is widely considered the wealthiest American of all time, and the richest person in modern history.

Good management consists of showing average people how to do the work of superior people.
I believe in the supreme worth of the individual and in his right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
I believe that the law was made for man and not man for the law; that government is the servant of the people and not their master.
Don’t be afraid to give up the good to go for the great.
I do not think there is any other quality so essential to the success of any kind as the quality of perseverance. It overcomes almost everything, even nature.
The secret to success is to do the common things uncommonly well.
I would rather hire a man with enthusiasm, than a man who knows everything.
The most important thing for a young man is to establish credit . . . a reputation, character.
Next to doing the right thing, the most important thing is to let people know you are doing the right thing.
I was early taught to work as well as play,
My life has been one long, happy holiday;
Full of work and full of play-
I dropped the worry on the way-
And God was good to me every day.
If you want to succeed you should strike out on new paths, rather than travel the worn paths of accepted success.
I always tried to turn every disaster into an opportunity.
If your only goal is to become rich, you will never achieve it.
In the same way, the failures which a man makes in his life are due almost always to some defect in his personality, some weakness of body, or mind, or character, will, or temperament. The only way to overcome these failings is to build up his personality from within, so that he, by virtue of what is within him, may overcome the weakness which was the cause of the failure. It is only those efforts the man himself puts forth that can really help him.
Success comes from keeping the ears open and the mouth closed

Sir Winston Churchill

Sir Winston Leonard Spencer Churchill (30 November 1874 – 24 January 1965) was a British statesman, army officer, and writer.

It is no use saying ‘we are doing our best.’ You have got to succeed in doing what is necessary.
Employ your time in improving yourself by other men’s writings so that you shall come easily by what others have labored hard for.
Solitary trees, if they grow at all, grow strong.
Do not let us speak of darker days; let us speak rather of sterner days. These are not dark days: these are great days – the greatest days our country has ever lived.
Success is never found. Failure is never fatal. Courage is the only thing.
It is a good thing for an uneducated man to read books of quotations.
There are a terrible lot of lies going about the world, and the worst of it is that half of them are true.
The farther backward you can look, the farther forward you are likely to see.
If you’re going through hell, keep going.
You have enemies? Good. It means you’ve stood up for something, sometime in your life.
I like pigs. Dogs look up to us. Cats look down on us. Pigs treat us as equals.
It’s not enough that we do our best; sometimes we have to do what’s required.

Steve Jobs

Steve Paul Jobs (February 24, 1955 – October 5, 2011) was an American business magnate, industrial designer, investor, and media proprietor.

Let’s go invent tomorrow rather than worrying about what happened yesterday
I’m actually as proud of many of the things we haven’t done as the things we have done.
I don’t care about being right. I care about success and doing the right thing.
You have to believe that the dots will somehow connect in your future.
The products suck! There’s no sex in them anymore!
Details matter, it’s worth waiting to get it right.
Get closer than ever to your customers. So close that you tell them what they need well before they realize it themselves.
The doers are the major thinkers. The people that really create the things that change this industry are both the thinker and doer in one person.
If you don’t love it, you’re going to fail.
You can build your own things that other people can use. And once you learn that, you’ll never be the same again.
Don’t get hung up on who owns the idea. Pick the best one, and let’s go.
We do no market research. We don’t hire consultants. We just want to make great products.
I always advise people – Don’t wait! Do something when you are young, when you have nothing to lose, and keep that in mind.

Thomas John Watson Sr.

Thomas John Watson (February 17, 1874 – June 19, 1956) was an American businessman. He served as the chairman and CEO of International Business Machines (IBM).

Whenever an individual or a business decides that success has been attained, progress stops.
I’m no genius. I’m smart in spots and I stay around those spots.
I think there is a world market for maybe five computers.
I was asked if I was going to fire an employee who made a mistake that cost the company $600,000. No, I replied, I just spent $600,000 training him. Why would I want somebody to hire his experience?
Really big people are, above everything else, courteous, considerate and generous – not just to some people in some circumstances – but to everyone all the time.
Every time we’ve moved ahead in IBM, it was because someone was willing to take a chance, put his head on the block, and try something new.
Good design is good business.
Would you like me to give you a formula for success? It’s quite simple, really. Double your rate of failure. You’re thinking of failure as the enemy of success. But it isn’t at all, you can be discouraged by failure – or you can learn from it. So go ahead and make mistakes. Make all you can. Because remember that’s where you’ll find success. On the far side of failure.
The toughest thing about the power of trust is that it’s very difficult to build and very easy to destroy. The essence of trust building is to emphasize the similarities between you and the customer.
Follow the path of the unsafe, independent thinker. Expose your ideas to the dangers of controversy. Speak your mind and fear less the label of ‘crackpot’ than the stigma of conformity. And on issues that seem important to you, stand up and be counted at any cost.
Solve it. Solve it quickly, solve it right or wrong. If you solve it wrong, it will come back and slap you in the face, and then you can solve it right. Lying dead in the water and doing nothing is a comfortable alternative because it is without risk, but it is an absolutely fatal way to manage a business.

Henry Ford

Henry Ford (July 30, 1863 – April 7, 1947) was an American industrialist and business magnate, founder of the Ford Motor Company, and chief developer of the assembly line technique of mass production.

If there is any one secret of success, it lies in the ability to get the other person’s point of view and see things from that person’s angle as well as from your own.
Employers only handle the money – it is the customer who pays the wages.
Thinking is the hardest work there is, which is probably the reason so few engage in it.
Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, this time more intelligently.
As we advance in life we learn the limits of our abilities.
If you think you can do a thing or think you can’t do a thing, you’re right.
Enthusiasm is the yeast that makes your hopes shine to the stars.
Quality means doing it right when no one is looking.
One of the greatest discoveries a man makes, one of his great surprises, is to find he can do what he was afraid he couldn’t do.
There is one rule for the industrialist and that is: make the best quality goods possible at the lowest cost possible, paying the highest wages possible.
There is no man living who isn’t capable of doing more than he thinks he can do.
A market is never saturated with a good product, but it is very quickly saturated with a bad one.
You can’t learn in school what the world is going to do next year.

Richard Branson

Sir Richard Charles Nicholas Branson (born 18 July 1950) is an English business magnate, investor, author, and philanthropist.

The brave may not live forever, but the cautious do not live at all.
If your dreams don’t scare you they are too small.
There is no greater thing you can do with your life and your work than follow your passions in a way that serves the world and you.
Entrepreneurship isn’t just a label – it’s a lifestyle.
The one person who can make your business succeed is not an investor or even a mentor, it is you.
An entrepreneur is an innovator, a job creator, a game-changer, a business leader, a disruptor, an adventurer.
Do not be embarrassed by your failures, learn from them, and start again.
You don’t learn to walk by following rules. You learn by doing and falling over.
If you don’t succeed at first, there’s no need for the F word (Failure). Pick yourself up and try, try again.
Learn from failure. If you are an entrepreneur and your first venture wasn’t a success, welcome to the club.
My definition of success? The more you’re actively and practically engaged, the more successful you will feel.
Entrepreneurial business favors an open mind. It favors people whose optimism drives them to prepare for many possible futures, pretty much purely for the joy of doing so.
Don’t become a slave to technology, manage your phone, don’t let it manage you.
A business has to be involving, it has to be fun, and it has to exercise your creative instincts.
Please be polite. Nothing in life should erode the habit of saying thank you to people or praising them.
Find the right people to work with and you can’t go wrong.
Life is a hell of a lot more fun if you say yes rather than no.
